Each year Wakatū conducts a number of projects that progress owner considerations. Past projects include wetland restoration, cadetships, oral history interviews and environmental awareness. Our current projects include:

Ahi Kā Wānanga

A project to invest in the capability of our owners living in Te Tau Ihu.  The focus is on connecting our owners with the heritage of the Tenths through outdoor recreation.  Participants embark upon a journey retracing the cultural footsteps of our ancestors that includes travelling by waka, boat, bike and waewae staying at marae in Nelson, Motueka and Golden Bay.

Rautaki Kaitiaki

A Māori based sustainability framework and strategy.  This project is in partnership with the Cawthron Institute and will initially be centred on our horticultural land.  It explores what Kaitiakitanga means for our people in the contemporary management of our land, and how that in turn determines how our environmental and cultural principles lead our economic development.

Koro – Am I a Kaitiaki?

A picture book for the next generation.  Developed for children aged 5 – 10, this book is written and illustrated by our owners.  It tells the story of our families over the course of two centuries, tracing our legacy through to today.  It is about the events that have shaped the history, land and people of Te Te Tau Ihu.

Te Pae Tāwhiti - Intergenerational Plan

The development of our intergenerational plan.  Two years of widespread discussion and debate with our people have culminated in a succinct and articulate plan which confirms our purpose as an organisation.  This guiding document sets the standards our people use to assess and guide our performance and future.
